Matches affected by Rain
27-Aug-2011
The recent heavy rain coupled with local thundery showers put paid to many games this weekend and the Seconds who managed half an innings and the Thirds and Fourths were all denied a full game of cricket this weekend.
At least the First's moving over to Hackers Field got a full game in and recorded an excellant win against Woolpit for a full house 20 points when all others apart from our neighbours at Copdock managed to be affected by the rain. Inserted and batting for a reduced 45 overs Ipswich managed 175-7. Success was really down to removing dangerman Andy Northcote and this was achieved at 19 for 1 with Andy getting all 19 runs. A steady partnership between Parker and Crame took the score to 61 with the latter caught & bowled by Gooding before the introduction of John Howe who had Parker caught by Alders when the score was 92. Despite Firth adding a useful 37 other batsmen found life difficult and wickets fell consistantly. With Woolpit in the early stages somewhat favourites to get the target they fell short when remarkedly the seventh wicket fell at 138. A run out without further score produced the eighth wicket and nine and ten soon followed both bowled by Alex Gooding to close Woolpits inninings no higher at 138 all out.
The win has lifted Ipswich in the table and with three difficult games left when all points will be hard fought it leaves the First's in a good position to retain Division 1 status in the first year back at the top flight.
